Protecting the Sea Turtles

Protecting Sea Turtle NestsBaja Properties is the only real estate company in Los Cabos that actively works protecting the Sea Turtles nesting on the shores of San José del Cabo, as part of the Sea Turtle Protection Network created by most of the hotels in Los Cabos with beachfront. Since 2007, after the proper training, our team member and marketing director José Luis Escalante has been watching over these vulnerable creatures thoroughly.

We have turtles nesting the whole year but the heavy of the season starts in May and ends in November. First, the turtles come and lay their eggs at the beach, most commonly at night. We take the eggs from that location, count them and then "plant" them into a hole on the ground but closer to one of our developed resorts: Las Mañanitas or Tortuga Bay, where the guards keep an eye on it.

This way is harder for the predators (dogs, people illegally looking for eggs) to access the eggs. 45 days later he looks into the nest and separate the hatchlings that are ready to go from the ones that are missing a day or two.

Then a release is done usually in front of guests and occasional by comers. An explanation about the species is given and questions are answered.

Every year we surpass our previous record. If you want to find out about our activity and turtle releases follow us in Twitter or Facebook
